Typical Interview Questions

There are a variety of questions but generally, you should be prepared to answer questions in these general themes.

  • General questions
    • Why should we hire you?
    • Why are you interested in working for our business/company/store?
    • Why are you looking for a job?
  • Experiential questions
    • Do you have experience with this type of work?
    • What do you think it takes to be successful in this position?
    • What expectations do you have for this job?
    • What do you think my expectations of you will be?
  • Self-assessment questions
    • What are your strengths?
    • What would your friend say your weaknesses are?
    • How would you describe your ability to work as a team member?
  • Practical questions
    • Are you available on evenings and/or weekends?
    • Are you available during holidays?
    • Can you be flexible with your schedule?
    • How many hours to do you want to work/can you work?
    • Do you have any conflicts with sports or other activities?
    • Do you have reliable transportation?
  • Situational questions
    • Tell me about a major problem you handled recently?
    • Can you give me an example of a problem you had with a teacher or coach recently? How did you handle it?
    • Describe a time you got bad service? In that person’s place, what could you have done differently?

As silly as it may sound, you should practice answering these questions ALOUD even if it is just you alone in a room. You will be surprised how difficult some of them are and the more you practice the more comfortable you will be with your answers.
