New Memory Care Kit Collection
CAPL was awarded a $1500 grant through the Rotary Club of Cary-Grove, which was used to create Memory Care Kits for those with dementia and their caregivers.
Barb Riley, our Program Coordinator, shared her excitement: “Having worked previously in the memory care field for several years, I’m attuned to the need for quality of life for people with dementia and their caregivers. My hope is that these kits will offer new and meaningful ways to connect that encompasses the whole person and not just focus on the negatives of the disease.”
Community Engagement Liaison and partner on this project, Hannah Bovino, added
“We wanted to provide a positive and accessible way for caregivers, family members, and friends to engage with their loved ones. I think something that will make our collection unique is the well-being support included for caregivers.”
The Kits are now available to CAPL cardholders for one-week checkout with one renewal if no holds are pending. Ask staff at the Service Center to assist you with checking out a Memory Kit.
Aging Education Kit
This kit includes educational materials about dementia, planning for and giving care, and learning more about the human behind the disease.
Caregiver Self-care Kit
To take care of your loved one, you first need to take care of yourself. We know that caregiving is a long, hard journey and that it’s easy to overlook yourself, especially post-pandemic. We have lovingly chosen these activities specifically with the caregiver in mind. Think of this kit as a hug from us to you!
Conversation Starter Kit – 2 Kits available
Looking for ways to engage with your loved one? These Kits include a lot of ideas to encourage reminiscing, tools for creative expression as well as activities related to literacy, humor, art, history, and brain health.
